The Evolution of Karate competition.
In the Budo traditions of Kendo, Judo, and Sumo...Kentou is a new wave of full-contact competition sport. A martial arts fusion of Karate, Boxing, Kickboxing & Judo. It is considered by the populous as a Japanese MMA style, which we refer to it as Karate-mma. Kentou is based on the full-contact techniques of Kyokushin Karate and Judo. The difference between Japanese styles of mma and mainstream mma is the Japanese styles observe the strict etiquette of Budo Tradition. Kentou is where Japanese Budo meets the modern training & fighting techniques of today. Kentou is a very versatile style and can complement other styles of martial arts. Kicking, striking, kneeing, throwing, & holding techniques are taught. Classes are conducted in a traditional dojo setting and the traditional Japanese dojo etiquette is observed, however, katas or forms are not part of the curriculum. Practitioners wear a karate/judo type uniform during training & competition. The training consists of calisthenics, kick & punch drills, falling, throws & take downs.
Rank promotion is achieved by drills & kumite or competition. When in competition, Competitors are called Kentoka [拳闘家] and they wear fist and shin guards, super-safe head guard, mouth guard and groin cup. Female and child competitors wear chest protectors. We are a former member of the major Japanese mma organization.
Now that we are independent, we are free to offer lessons to all and to assist in operations of newly formed dojos.
