The Evolution of Karate competition.
In the Budo traditions of Kendo, Judo, and Sumo, Kentou is the new wave of martial arts sport and competition as well as a practical form of self-defense.
Kentou is a martial art that is based on Kyokushin Karate, fused with techniques from Boxing, Kickboxing & Judo. It is what all martial arts used to be and should be..."To absorb what is useful". Kentou is where the Japanese Budo philosophy meets the modern training & fighting techniques of today. Kentou is a very versatile style and can complement other styles of martial arts. Kicking, striking, kneeing, throwing, & holding techniques are taught. Classes are conducted in a traditional dojo setting along with the observance of traditional dojo etiquette, however, katas (forms) and weapon training are not part of the curriculum. Practitioners wear a karate/judo type uniform during training & competition. Training consists of calisthenics, kick & punch drills, break falling, throws & take-downs.
Rank promotion is achieved by drills & kumite or in some instances, during competition. Competitors are refereed to as Kento-ka (拳闘家) and the competitors wear fist and shin guards, super-safe head guard, mouth guard and groin cup, and chest protectors are added to female and child competitors. We are former members of the major Japanese mma organization. Now that we are independent, we are free to offer lessons to all and to assist in operations of newly formed dojos.
